Cheerleaders at Bell cheer for the both boys and girls basketball teams. They practice 2-3 times per week and they develop team working skills for strong routines.
The basketball season usually begins in December. Our cheerleaders will be cheering for both the boys and the girls 5/6th grade teams as well as the 7/8th teams. We will be cheering home basketball games and some away basketball games. Cheerleaders are expected to wear their cheer bows and uniforms on game day.
There are two to three practices per week in which cheerleaders learn basic cheers, jumps, stunting, dances for game half-times, exercising, and strength training.
Program Requirements:
There is a fee when joining the program that goes towards athletic fees, uniforms, socks, poms, and Bell spirit cheerleading bows. See coaches with any concerns in this area.
Cheerleaders are required to wear white shoes to games and practices so that we all appear uniform when practicing and cheering at games.
We ask that students be as dedicated as possible to our program and our team. We can always work around particular situations, but would appreciate seeing every girl at our practices. A notice will be required when the cheerleader will be absent.
Good attitude! Cheerleading is not only support for other team sports, but is a team sport in itself! This means we need good attitudes to try new ideas and work together to be the best team that we can be. Remember that we are representing our Alexander Graham Bell School!
*The minis cheerleaders have slightly different requirements. They will be asked to wear tennis shoes to practice and games and will have uniform for performances. They will have practices once a week from December to February. They will perform for families and friends and at a few basketball games. They will learn to stunt, tumble, and cheer! Hopefully they will also join the varsity team when they get to 5th grade!
